How long after ankle surgery will I be able to walk on my own without crutches?

I broke my ankle and had surgery 4 weeks ago. They places a metal plate on my outer ankle with 7 screws an one long screw in the inner ankle. I'm in a walking boot now but not allowed to put any weight on my ankle. I have an appt in 2 wks with my orthopedist and he said he would allow me to put weight on it. I wAnt to know how long after that will I be able to walk without my crutches. Even if I have a limp I just want to know when I'll be able to get around on my own. Thanks!!!
