Is an LLB (senior status) and a GDL (with LLB upgrade from BPP) different?

I am planning to study Law. I am an international student from Botswana. I already have an undergraduate degree in Journalism from the UK. someone just told me that doing a GDL even with the LLB upgrade from BPP College of Law would never ist me in becoming a Lawyer and practising outside the UK. This came as a big shock to me because I thought that the whole reason why BPP offered the LLB upgrade was so you could have a qualification similar to that of an undergrad even internationally. I was told me that I would have to do the LLB senior status which is offered by many Universities if I planned to practise in my home country and others like the US. Please help me clear this up because making a mistake here would set me back thousands and thousands of pounds (literally) and telling my sponsor to change details for my funding because I already told him that I would be doing the GDL at BPP (I got an offer) and the LLB upgrade.
